BOSTON — The Boston University Terriers Men’s Ice Hockey Team suffered a major loss this week as freshman forward Clayton Keller will be out with a long-term lower body injury, head coach David Quinn told WTBU Sports.

“He’ll be out for an extended period of time,” said Quinn on Wednesday. “The good news is there’s no surgery required so it’s just going to be rehab.”

Quinn also said that the injury was not season-ending and that the team will be taking the situation week-by-week. Keller went down in the third period of Saturday’s game against Northeastern. After skating off under his own power, he limped down the tunnel and did not return to the ice.

The 2016 seventh-overall draft pick to Arizona has scored five goals and four assists through his first seven collegiate games. This past weekend, Keller recorded four points en route to his second Hockey East Rookie of the Week Award.

Replacing Keller on the second line, according to Coach Quinn, will be senior Nick Roberto. After missing all of last season, Roberto has scored twice and added three assists in his first seven games of the year.

“We’re a lot more optimistic than we were three days ago,” said Quinn.
