Field Hockey: Terriers Miss Tournament

After falling in today’s Patriot League championship game to American, the Boston University field hockey team will miss the post season.

Instead of the 19 teams that previously made tournament play, just 18 teams made the post season this year. The final at large bid went to Princeton, meaning the Terriers missed out.

BU went 13-6 in the regular season, defeating Boston College as one of its top wins this year, who made the post season tournament. Losses to Syracuse and UConn plagued the Terriers’ record, but BU still had one of the higher RPIs in the nation.

The Terriers also boasted three Patriot League regular season awards, with the offensive and defensive players of the year going to Hester van der Laan and Ellie Landsman respectively, and Sally Starr winning coach of the year.

BU went 5-1 in conference play and 8-4 at New Balance Field. The Terriers defeated Bucknell on Friday to advance to the conference title game, where they fell on home turf, 1-0. The loss gave the team its first PL title loss in two years, and now they’ll be on the outside looking in.
