Men’s Hockey: Terriers Claw Past Bobcats, 3-0

After shutting out the Sacred Heart University Pioneers last night, the No. 8/8 Boston University Terriers looked to sweep the weekend, facing a challenging matchup against the No. 4/3 Quinnipiac University Bobcats. Once again, freshman Jake Oettinger came up large and the Terriers shut out the Bobcats, 3-0. BU got a goal in each period amid another tremendously penalty heavy game.
Boston University got its scoring started 6:11 into the game, after a critical 5-on-3 penalty kill. Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson took the puck through the neutral zone and up the center of the ice. After drifting off to the right, he slipped a pass through the middle of the ice to Jordan Greenway, who drove to the net and snapped off a backhander to make it 1-0 Terriers. After taking almost half the season last year to net his first goal, Greenway has three in the first five regular season games, something Coach David Quinn certainly takes notice of.
“We talked an awful lot at the end of the year last year, as good a year as [Greenway] had, he only had 5 goals. When you’re a guy that big and strong and have the talent he has, that isn’t cutting it,” Quinn said. “He was determined to be more of a goal scorer. I think it started happening over the summer at the World Junior camp, he had three goals in that tournament, and he’s picked up where he’s left off. He’s a dominant player at this level”
Later in the period, Quinnipiac forward Logan Mick would be hit with hitting from behind and game misconduct penalties when he slammed Brandon Hickey into the boards after a whistle. Overall, there were 63 penalty minutes between both squads, 12 successful kills for the Terriers but no power play goals in 7 chances.
“I thought BU’s kill was really good. I thought they were eating pucks, they had good sticks, they were really competitive, and I thought their goalie was excellent,” Quinnipiac coach Rand Pecknold said.
After finishing a 4-on-4, BU bulged the twine once again in the second period. Coming into the offensive zone in a 3-on-1, Patrick Harper found Bobo Carpenter crashing for a back door tip-in goal, making it 2-0.
Jakob Forsbacka-Karlsson tacked on a short-handed empty netter with 57.5 seconds to go in the game, taking the puck behind the goal line after Connor Clifton wiped out and tucked it in.
Jake Oettinger posted his second consecutive shutout, making 22 saves Saturday night.
“I can’t tell you how proud I am of our team. We didn’t feel very good about ourselves after we left Denver,” Quinn said. “We showed a lot of guts, we showed a lot of character, we showed a lot of stupidity, we just really gutted this one out.”
The Terriers have this week off before a home-and-home series against the Northeastern Huskies on November 4th-5th.
