Women’s Soccer: Terriers Seek First Win, Face Northeastern

The cross-town rivalry continues Thursday night at Nickerson Field as the Boston University Women’s Soccer Team plays host to Northeastern University in a final tuneup before Patriot League begins.

The Terriers (0-8) are still searching for their first win of the season. BU returns home from their Blacksburg, Virginia trip where they dropped two consecutive contests to James Madison and Virginia Tech, being outscored 5-0 in the process.

Meanwhile Northeastern comes into the Thursday night showdown sitting at 3-4-1. The Huskies are coming off a tough double overtime defeat at Boston College last Sunday. Northeastern owns wins over Providence, Patriot League foe Holy Cross, and La Salle. Both teams share losses against a nationally ranked Connecticut team as well as Boston College while Northeastern beat Providence and BU lost to them.

The achilles heel for BU so far this season has been the offense. The young, inexperienced group has only managed two goals in eight games played, putting them as the fourth worst team in the country in that category. Northeastern averages a respectable 1.5 goals per game with Hannah Rosenblatt and Taylor Caparo leading the team with three goals a piece.

The Northeastern contest rounds out a difficult nine game non-conference schedule for the Terriers who played six of those games against Power 5 opponents and two against nationally ranked teams. The Huskies represent another tough game for BU against a quality mid-major program that has showed consistent success over the years.

For BU to pick up their first win of the season, a goal will be inevitable. Despite the early season struggles though, BU has scored a goal in two of their three home matches. The home field advantage could play a factor in tonight’s outcome.

The last time these two teams met, Northeastern outlasted BU in the first round of the 2014 NCAA Tournament. The remaining Terriers from that team look for revenge while Northeastern looks for their third straight win against their Boston rival.
