Men’s Lacrosse: BU Blasts Leopards

Coming off arguably their biggest win in program history, a victory over No.14 Harvard, the BU Men’s Lacrosse Team continued their hot play on Saturday afternoon notching a decisive 16-8 victory over Patriot League opponent, Lafayette Leopards in Pennsylvania.

The Terriers completely dominated the entire game and wasted no time getting things started. BU scored the first five goals of the afternoon, opening up a 5-0 lead at the start of the second quarter.

Freshman attacker James Burr scored three of those first five goals for an early hat trick. Kevin Lewis broke the scoring drought for the Leopards in the second quarter but then Burr responded just minutes later scoring his fourth goal of the half to give BU a 6-1 lead.

BU scored three more goals from Jack Wilson, Adam Schaal, and Brendan Homire to hold a convincing 9-1 lead at the half.

After Lewis scored again to open up the second half, the Terriers then scored six unanswered goals to lead 15-2 with 12:31 remaining in the contest and seemingly put the game away.

Lafayette ended up adding six goals in the waning minutes to cut the BU lead to eight, but the deceiving scoreboard does not show how dominant the Terriers were in this one.

BU outshot Lafayette 43-19 and won the groundball battle 50-28. The hero from last game, goalie Christian Carson-Banister, did not have to do much in this one saving two of the four shots he saw in three quarters of play before being relieved by backup Sean McGovern.

The scoring was also spread out for BU as 11 different Terriers found the back of the net. Burr led the way with four while Wilson and Homire had two of their own. Also, scoring a goal apiece was Cal Dearth, Ryan Johnston, Michael Laviano, Tristan Ruh, Michael Carbone, Pat Myers, Adam Schaal, and Greg Farris.

Stellar face off man Sam Talkow was also back to his normal self on Saturday afternoon as the Terriers won 21 out of 26 faceoffs.

The dominant win improves BU to 8-2, 3-1 PL while Lafayette continues their struggles dropping to 1-7, 0-5 PL.

The Terriers will return home to Nickerson Field, after a three game road stint, to face off against Lehigh next Saturday afternoon, a team they are tied with in second place in the league.
