Men’s Lacrosse: BU Heads to High Point for First Road Contest
By: Marisa Ingemi
The Boston University men’s lacrosse team will hit the road for the first time in the 2016 season when they head to North Carolina to face the High Point Panthers. BU is 2-0 this season and is coming off of a 8-5 victory over UMass Lowell on Saturday.
This is the second straight season the Terriers have started 2-0, and they have a chance to start 3-0 for the first time in the history of the program. High Point is 0-1 following a loss against Duke this past Friday night.
BU has held its opponents to five goals in both of its contests this season, but is yet to break the double digit goal barrier. Jack Wilson leads the team with seven goals and last week freshman James Burr scored four goals to lead the Terriers.
Goaltender Christian Carson-Bannister is fifth in the nation with a .600 save percentage and leads all goalies who have played more than one game. The defense of Dominick Calisto and Greg Wozniak have helped lead the way for the Terriers after shutting down the top scorers of their past two opponents.
Sam Talkow, second in the nation in faceoff percentage, went 10-for-15 last week despite being banged up. Elliott Burr took a few faceoffs last week as well against a weaker Lowell draw unit.
Dan Lomas, the leading scorer for the Panthers, was a fifth round draft pick of Major League Lacrosse’s Ohio Machine in this past January’s MLL Collegiate Draft. Attackman Matt Thistle was a seventh round selection to the Boston Cannons. They will be the first two pro prospects that the Terriers face this season.
Boston University has had its up and down moments in the first two games it has played this season. While the Terriers struggled in the first half against Lowell, the second half was an opposite of how they played against Providence as they used strong clearing and extended offensive possessions to beat the River Hawks.
High Point will be a challenge for the Terriers early on in the season as BU looks to come back from the road undefeated following receiving votes in the media poll this week. Game time is 4 p.m.
