Men’s Basketball: Terriers Victorious at West Point

By: Matt Doherty

Nathan Dieudonne scored 17 points and grabbed 18 rebounds as the Boston University men’s basketball team picked up a 76-67 win on the road over Army on Wednesday night.

The 18 rebounds were a career high for Dieudonne. The senior forward also became the 17th player in program history to record 800 career points and 600 rebounds.

With the victory the Terriers snapped a two-game losing streak and improved to 4-5 in conference play. BU had a rocky start to Patriot League play, losing their first three games.

Accompanying Dieudonne at the top of the BU stat sheet was sophomore guard Cheddi Mosely, who made his first start since he suffered a foot injury nearly a month ago. Mosely, who had recently been playing the role of the sixth man, hit five three-pointers and scored 23 points on the night.

This game at West Point continued a theme of the Terriers being involved in close games. After being tied at the half, BU went on a 14-5 run early in the second half to open up an advantage they never relinquished.

John Papale knocked down two three-pointers on his way to 12 points. Eric Fanning contributed off the bench with nine points and seven rebounds.

The key stat for the Terriers on the night was rebounds. BU out-rebounded Army 45-33. Joe Jones’ men also controlled the game down low, outscoring Army 32-18 in the paint and 14-7 on second chance points.

Army opened up a 15-6 lead early in the game, but BU overcame the early deficit right away with three straight three-pointers from Mosely and Papale. The three-point game was kind to the Terriers as they went 37% from beyond the arc.

As a team Army shot just 34%, well below their season average. One Black Knight who didn’t have trouble scoring the ball was senior guard Kyle Wilson, who poured in 25 points. The former Patriot League Player of the Year and freshman John Emezie were the only Army players in double digits.

The Terriers are now back to .500 for the seventh time this season as they sit at 11-11 overall. BU will look to go over that mark for the third time on the year on Sunday afternoon when they host Lehigh.

Tip-off is set for 12 PM at Case Gym and the game can be seen live on national television on the CBS Sports Network.
