Men’s Basketball: BU Burns Out in Colgate

By: Chris Lynch

After an emotional game on Monday night against Loyola, Boston University made a quick turnaround to go to Colgate to play the Raiders, who were 4-2 in Patriot League play to start the night.

The teams played an even first half, trading buckets and the lead for most of the first half. With the half coming to a close, Colgate scored on two straight possessions. Austin Tillotson made a three pointer and Fransisco Amiel got his only points of the game on a layup with 34 seconds in the half. Colgate took a two point lead and momentum into halftime.

When the second half began, BU’s offense came out firing, leading by as many as six points in the first four minutes of the half. The Raiders responded by taking a lead on a 24-6 run over the next five minutes of play. BU trailed by double digits for most of the rest of the game and never got closer than the final margin of seven.

Cheddi Mosely continued a strong return to form in his second game back from injury, leading the Terriers in scoring with 17 points for the game. Nathan Dieudonne put up another double double, totaling 14 points and 10 rebounds. Two other Terriers totaled double digit points. Eric Fanning and Kyle Foreman both scored 10 points each. The Terrier’s offense was much colder in tonight’s game than it was against Loyola on Monday. BU only shot 47.2 percent from the field for the game and 31.8 percent from three point range, including only 22.2 percent from three point land in the second half.

BU’s defense also did not make they plays needed to win. Colgate shot  58.3 percent from the field and 56 percent from three point range for the game. They also shot 65.2 percent from the field and 66.7 percent from three point range in the second half. Austin Tillotson led the Raiders in scoring with 22 points in the game, and he had plenty of help. Both Jordan Swompshire and Alex Ramon totaled 16 points in the game, and Malcolm Regisford scored 10 points of his own.

With the final score of 85-78, BU falls back under .500 in conference play on the season. Their record is 3-4 in the Patriot League, and 10-10 overall. They return home to play the Conference leading Bucknell Bison at home on Saturday at 1 PM.
