Men’s Ice Hockey: PLAYER RATINGS vs. Boston College

OFFENSE: C+

The offense scored one even-strength goal all weekend, and it came on a deflection that squeaked into the Boston College net. On Friday, the Boston University Terriers couldn’t get anything going on offense and struggled to have much zone time after the first period. Saturday, the Terriers dominated but still only mustered one goal. It was a forgettable weekend for an offense that had scored thirteen goals the weekend before.

DEFENSE: B

The defense this past weekend allowed only two even strength goals against a high-powered offense in BC. Two power play goals, a penalty shot, and an empty-netter made up the rest of the scoring for the Eagles. The defense was stout for the most part, but got caught puck-watching at times and continued to struggle clearing the puck out of the slot. Overall, the defense had a decent weekend.

SPECIAL TEAMS: A-

The Terrier power play converted three times against the eighth best power play in the nation. The man-advantage unit continues to be lethal and has converted on nine of its last 25 chancese. The penalty kill also looked good, conceding only twice against a relatively good power play for Boston College.

GOALTENDING: B+

Sean Maguire was the star of the weekend, standing on his head both nights. Despite the defense letting him down, Maguire made save after save and continued to be aggressive. His puck-handling ability is one of the best you would see in a goalie. After starting the year as a backup, Maguire has won the starting job and has performed well since earning it.

TERRIERS’ THREE STARS OF THE NIGHT

  1. Sean Maguire

The senior goalie made 70 saves on the weekend, including 38 on Saturday.

  1. Ahti Oksanen

The Finnish forward recorded his 100th career point on Friday, notching a goal and an assist in a losing effort. Oksanen had six shots on the weekend as well, adding to his nation’s best 115 for the season.

  1. Jakob Forsbacka Karlsson

Along with four shots on goal, the Swede scored once on Friday and added an assist. Offensively, JFK was the most prolific player for the Terriers.d
