North Dakota takes the number one spot at the start of the second half of the season. Goaltender Cam Johnson recorded four straight shutouts and had his shutout streak of 298:25 snapped by Alabama-Huntsville. Johnson now leads the nation with a 1.071 GAA and a .957 SV%. Along with an offensive front of Drake Caggiula, Brock Boeser, and Nick Schmaltz, the Fighting Hawks are beginning to look like the team to beat come tournament time.

Quinnipiac climbs to number after dropping to third at the end of the first half. The Bobcats are coming off a disappointing tie to Northeastern, but have proven themselves to be almost unbeatable. The story of the season has been goaltender Michael Garteig, posting a 1.352 GAA and a .943 SV%. Quinnipiac also leads the country with 1.457 goals against per game. The Bobcats’ strong defensive front makes them the favorites in the highly-contested ECAC.

Defending National Champions Providence lost its first two games this week in overtime to Cornell and Brown. Along with a relatively unconvincing and controversial win over BC, the Friars fell to third in the poll. The Friars are fifth in the NCAA with 1.734 goals against per game, and with leading scorer Jake Walman set to return from injury soon, the Friars will return to full strength in time for a stretch run towards the Hockey East playoffs.

STAT OF THE WEEK

Ohio State won the Florida College Hockey Classic by beating BC and Cornell. Providence was also in the tournament. It was the first time Ohio State scored eight goals since their CCHA Playoff victory over Notre Dame on March 6, 2010; a conference which is now defunct.
