Men’s Basketball: Terriers Lose Two in a Row

Trying to start off the new year right and pick up their first Patriot League win of the year, the Boston University Terriers traveled to Pennsylvania to take on Lehigh University but lost 81-73 after a valiant comeback effort fell short.

BU came in at 7-7 overall after losing to Holy Cross to open league play while Lehigh posted a 2-10 record despite being picked to win the conference before the season.

The early season struggles for the Mountain Hawks were not evident on Saturday especially for reigning Patriot League Player of the Year Tim Kempton, who scored a game high 22 points on top of 11 rebounds.

The Terriers found themselves in a hole in the first half, a recurring theme, as they trailed by as many as 13 but they did fight back cutting the lead to just two at the half.

However, in the second half BU could not regain the lead despite tying the contest up five times but the Hawks pulled away late. Alongside Kempton’s 22 points was a career high 20 points from freshman guard Kyle Leufroy and 16 from backcourt mate Austin Price.

BU did not shoot the ball poorly or turn the ball over like they do in the majority of their losses. The Terriers just could not stop Kempton and the Lehigh offense.

Senior forward Nathan Dieudonne led the Terriers in scoring for the second consecutive game notching 17 points and 7 rebounds. Nick Havener posted his second double-double of the season with a 13 point 11 rebound stat line and senior John Papale scored 13 points.

Leading scorer Cheddi Mosely struggled from the field shooting just 1-7 from three point range and collecting 9 points.

The Terriers never led in the game and are now 7-8, 0-2 PL on the season.

BU will return home on Wednesday night when they host a surprising Navy team at 7 PM in Case Gym.
