Erik Udahl to Join Men’s Hockey Roster

According to the league, BCHL forward Erik Udahl will join the Boston University men’s hockey team for next semester. Udahl is the second forward the Terriers will add externally beginning in January after it was reported last week that Oskar Andren would join the team.

Jeff Cox from SBNation reported early last week that the Terriers were looking into adding a forward out of the BCHL, and that he was a former local prep school star. Udahl was the only player in the BCHL to match that description. He had been playing with the Coquitlam Express.

The Terriers have a connection with the BCHL with three current players formerly playing in the league: forward Mike Moran and goaltenders Connor LaCouvee and Sean Maguire.

Udahl is a left wing who, according to SBNation, would be expected to play on the fourth line and add depth. With Nick Roberto out for the season and AJ Greer departing for the QMJHL, the Terriers were lacking serious depth at the forward position. It also remains to be seen if first line winger Ahti Oksanen would miss any time with injury.

According to a Canadian hockey scout source, Udahl is an undersized forward whose biggest advantage is his speed. However, his size is a potential restriction that would leave him to be more of a fourth line grinder on a division one team. Out of East Walpole, Massachusetts, Udahl is used to being in a scoring role.

This season in 33 games played with the Express, Udahl has put up 11 points. He played last season with the Langley Rivermen where he posted 19 points in 48 games.
