Men’s Hockey: Oskar Andren Joining BU in January

Amid the loss of several players, the Boston University men’s hockey team has made an addition to its roster for the second half of the season. Former NAHL commit Oskar Andren will join the Terriers starting in January, according to the NAHL.

“It’s an amazing feeling. Going to Boston University to play Division One hockey is something I’ve been dreaming of for a long, long time,” Andren said in a press release issued by the NAHL.  “To be able to get to go midseason, it’s just a great opportunity for me.”

Andren, a native of Sweden, had been playing with the Lone Star Brahmas and the 20 year old led the team with 22 points through the first half of the season. He is the first NAHL player to join Boston University sinc the 2008-2009 season.

“We told him to trust us.  I’ve seen Oskar improve every day in his board work and defensive play.  He’s going to be really good up there,” said Brahmas head coach Dan Wildfong in the NAHL press release.

The 6’1, 185 lbs forward should fill at least one holes on the Terriers roster with the loss of AJ Greer, suspension of Nick Roberto, and potential injury of Ahti Oksanen.

With 73 points in 89 career games played with the Brahmas, Andren is the second all-time leading scorer in team history. BU will play its first game of the second half on January 7th when they face crosstown rival Harvard, and Andren is expected to step in immediately.
