Men’s Basketball: Alston and Hankerson Out for the Season

As the first semester comes to an end, the Boston University Men’s Basketball team will go into the winter intersession without two major pieces.

Per a Boston University Athletics press release, junior Cedric Hankerson and senior Justin Alston will be sidelined for the remainder of their respective seasons.

They are not medically red-shirted yet, but will seek redshirts through the Patriot League and their status will be updated as their applications are filed.

Hankerson came into the year expecting to be an all-conference player after leading the team in scoring last season with 15.9 points a game. Instead, he tore his ACL in the offseason and then injured himself again in practice after a 99-69 loss to the UMass Minutemen, in which he scored 10 points in 12 minutes of play.

Justin Alston was the most improved player for the Terriers last season, and was on pace to have his strongest season yet. He was averaging 8.8 points and 4.9 rebounds a game on the year. He recorded 10 points and six rebounds on December 8th against Harvard before he broke his right foot and left the game.

The Terriers now have to adjust without two of their starters from last season on the floor for the duration of the year. They stand at 5-5 on the season after a close 64-57 victory over Quinnipiac yesterday. The next game for BU is on Saturday the 19th at 2 p.m. in Buffalo NY to take on Canisius College.

They return home to play New Hampshire on Monday night at 7 p.m. at Case Gym.
