Men’s Lacrosse: Schedule Continues to Take Shape

By: Marisa Ingemi

The Boston University Men’s Lacrosse schedule continues to take shape leading up to the 2016 season. After four games were announced by other schools earlier this fall, five new games have become a part of the unofficial schedule.

Early February appears like it will be busy for the Terriers, as they open against Providence College, as previously announced. The next week they host the UMass Lowell Riverhawks before heading to the road for the first time, against the High Point Panthers.

BU returns home for a Patriot League contest against Navy before two straight road games; at Bucknell, a Patriot League foe, and then crosstown rival Harvard three days later. The next week they head to Lafayette and then host Lehigh the next week.

It looks as if travelling to Holy Cross will be the last game of the regular season before the Patriot League tournament.

A few gaps where they may have games is the weekend between the 13th and 27th of February. BU faces High Point on a Tuesday night, but they still might return on the weekend before the Navy game. Another gap for potentially two games is the weekends of March 5th and 12th before they travel to Bucknell on the 19th. The 22nd is another Tuesday game, at Harvard, before facing Lafayette on Saturday the 26th.

Between the Lehigh and Holy Cross games there is a gap of potentially two or three games. Other Patriot League teams are ranging between 13 or 15 games overall, and with nine games already known, that means BU has 4-6 games unknown. Three of those games will be Patriot League opponents; Colgate, Army, and Loyola. There appear to be five gaps in the schedule, so it could be inferred there are five more games.

Out of Colgate’s known schedule, it might end up being a late April or an early March game midweek for the Terriers. Army has plenty of time in February and could fall into that gap, or potentially mid April. Lastly, Loyola appears as if it would certainly be April.

As far as other potential Terrier opponents, it is almost impossible to say. Local teams such as UMass Lowell and Harvard make sense and High Point is their only non-conference opponent where BU will have to travel far. In past years, Vermont, Canisius, Duke, and Mercer were all opponents. Of those teams, only Mercer and Vermont have announced its 2016 schedule, and BU is not on them.
