Men’s Basketball: Terriers Take on America East Powerhouse Albany

By: Matt Doherty

After a difficult overtime loss to crosstown rival Northeastern in the season opener on Friday, the Terriers will look to rebound in their final game of a two game home-stand on Monday against Albany.

The Terriers dropped a back-and-forth game against the Huskies despite many positive takeaways for Head Coach Joe Jones. First and foremost was the play of true freshman point guard Kyle Foreman who had 15 points and 7 assists in his first collegiate game. Jones also saw resilience from his squad after they battled back from a double digit deficit in the first half.

Jones and the rest of the team will look to learn from the Northeastern loss in terms of rebounding from a tough defeat and closing out close games. The first test after the loss will be Monday night against Albany at Case Gym.

Just like Northeastern, the Great Danes were a tournament team last year and return a lot from that 24 win season. Albany returns four starters, most notably leading scorer Peter Hooley. In their season opener, Albany fell to No.2 Kentucky 78-65 on Friday at Rupp Arena, never coming within single digits of the Wildcat lead.

Boston University and Albany are familiar with each other having played in the America East together for many years. The Terriers have won nine straight against the Great Danes dating back to 2009. Monday will be the first time this two teams have met since BU joined the Patriot League in 2013.

This game is also the first of four for BU in the 2015 Hall of Fame Classic, and it includes trips to NJIT, South Florida, and Kentucky.

Sophomore guard Cheddi Mosely led the Terriers in scoring with 19 points in the season opener while Foreman added 15, and John Papale, Justin Alston, and Nathan Dieudonne all contributed in double digits. The balanced scoring attack enabled BU to manage 84 points despite missing its top scorers from a season ago in Cedric Hankerson and Eric Fanning, who will both miss Monday’s game as well with no timetable for their returns

Tip off is scheduled for 7 p.m. at Case Gym and can be seen live on the Patriot League Network.
