Men’s Soccer: Terriers Face Holy Cross on Senior Night

BU v HC

BOSTON — The Boston University men’s soccer team will try to stay atop the Patriot League standings when they welcome Holy Cross to Nickerson Field for senior night on Wednesday.

The last time the Terriers were in action they fell 3-2 to the Lehigh Mountain Hawks in overtime at Nickerson Field. The golden goal was scored by Lehigh’s Doyle Tuvesson just under a minute into the overtime period. It was a heartbreaking defeat for a BU team that came from behind twice in the match.

Other results in the Patriot League went in BU’s favor. Navy lost 1-0 to Colgate in Annapolis, causing the Raiders to jump the Midshipmen in the standings. Holy Cross is lower in the standings but will have a chance to play spoiler in this match. The Terriers are only one point ahead of Colgate, who play at Army at the same time.

The Crusaders ended a two-match losing streak by beating Lafayette 1-0 in Worchester.  Holy Cross has a well-balanced attack, with only one player having scored more than three goals. That player, junior forward Joey DeVivo, was also the Crusaders leading scorer last season.

The Terriers were victorious last season against Holy Cross, winning 1-0 in Worchester on a goal from Jordan Barker. This year’s fixture between the two teams is a part of the inaugural Turnpike Trophy competition between the two schools.

There will be a ceremony for BU’s five seniors before their final regular season game at Nickerson Field. Jeroen Blugh, Lucas McBride, Kelvin Naito, Richie Robinson, and Matt Gilbert will all be honored. Gilbert has another year of athletic eligibility left after redshirting his freshman season.

Kickoff from Nickerson Field between BU and Holy Cross is scheduled for 7:00 p.m.
