BU Women’s Soccer Wraps Up Regular Season Home Slate With Turnpike Trophy Clash

In their final home game of the season, the BU Women’s Soccer Team will host Holy Cross on Wednesday night in a battle for the Turnpike Trophy series.

The series, in its inaugural year, spices up the rivalry between the two schools that are separated by only 42 miles. The competition stretches across 21 varsity sports where points are rewarded to whoever wins the head to head matchup. At the end of the athletic year, the school with the most points will win the trophy.

On Wednesday, not only will the two teams be battling for points in the Turnpike Trophy series, they will be battling for points in the Patriot League standings.

Boston University currently sits atop the conference standings following their 3-0 win over Lehigh on Saturday. The Terriers have 16 points and hold a 7-5-3 overall record, including 5-0-1 in the Patriot League. BU also owns a five point lead in the standings on second place Bucknell.

The rest of standings are extremely close, with Bucknell and last place Lafayette only separated by seven points.

The Crusaders are currently tied for seventh place with just five points in conference play but a win on Wednesday would put them into a top spot as the Patriot League Conference Tournament approaches.

For the Terriers, their Senior Day win over Lehigh clinched them a berth into the conference tournament which they will host if they remain in first place.

BU dominated the Mountain Hawks on Saturday with Jenna Fisher leading the way tallying a goal and two assists. Fellow senior Alyssa Parisi recorded her third shutout in a row which earned her Patriot League Goalie of the Week honors.

Parisi currently leads the conference with a 0.85 goals against average overall and a 0.35 GAA in conference play. BU has allowed just two goals in Patriot League competition.

Holy Cross comes in at 4-7-3 overall, and 1-3-2 in the PL. The Crusaders have not won a match since the calendar switched to October. Nine different players have scored goals for Holy Cross, led by Aly Spencer’s four goals and ten total points.

Although the seven Boston University seniors were honored on Saturday for Senior Day, Wednesday will mark their last regular season game on Nickerson Field. The group of Terrier seniors has never lost a conference home game in their careers.
