Women’s Hockey Challenges Clarkson Twice

BOSTON — The No. 9 Boston University Women’s Ice Hockey team will play two games this weekend against the No. 4/5 (USCHO/USA Hockey) ranked Clarkson Golden Knights. BU comes into the weekend 3-1-0 (2-0-0 Hockey East) as Clarkson stands at 5-0-0 (0-0-0 ECAC).

Clarkson won a share of the ECAC Regular Season championship last year after winning the NCAA National Championship in 2013-14. In their home-and-home series against Vermont last weekend, the Golden Knights won in Burilngton 5-0 and returned home to win 3-0. Sophomore Shea Tilley made 12 saves Friday and Junior McKenzie Johnson made 15 on Saturday, her first career start, to keep the Catamounts off the scoresheet. Junior assistant captain Cayley Mercer leads the team offensively with eight points (three goals, five assists), notching a point in all five games this season.

The Terrier’s line of Rebecca Russo, Victoria Bach, and Rebecca Leslie has accounted for six of the 12 goals scored this season, including three of the six scored last weekend against Penn State. Goaltenders Victoria Hanson and Erin O’Neil started one game against the Nittany Lions with the latter earing a victory on Saturday. Leslie leads the Scarlet and White with eight points (two goals, six assists) while Freshman Sammy Davis leads in goals with four.

All-time, BU is 5-1-1 against Clarkson, most recently wininng back-to-back games at Cheel Arena last year. The first game will start at 7 p.m. and the second matchup will begin at 3 p.m. As part of the Parents’ Weekend festivities, a ticket to the Men’s game against Wisconsin on Saturday night will also get you into the Women’s game on Saturday. Just show your ticket to the box office staff at Walter Brown Arena by 2 p.m. Saturday.
