Brown Uproots Terriers, 2-0, Snaps BU Unbeaten Streak

PROVIDENCE — The Brown Bears (6-4-1) snapped the Boston University Terriers (8-3-1) six-game winning streak, scoring early in the match en route to a 2-0 victory, Tuesday.
Brown’s first strike came in the twelfth minute when freshman Matthew Chow took a pass in the left side of the box from forward Will Cross. The British Columbia native quickly one-timed the pass into the back of the net for just his second goal of the season. It was the first time an opponent scored on BU from open play in over 650 minutes.
The Terriers were not able to muster too much of an offensive attack on Tuesday night as they only managed to get six of their nineteen shots on net. The Brown defense, anchored by junior goalkeeper Erik Hanson, effectively shut down the Terriers’ main scoring threats of Anthony Viteri and Felix De Bona. Viteri led BU in shots on net with three while De Bona had one on the evening.
In arguably the Terriers’ best chance of the night, Viteri, standing in the top of the box, booted a shot on goal. Unfortunately for BU, Hanson was there to make the save and then made a follow up save on De Bona’s rebound attempt.
On the other side, Brown would not let up as they constantly berated the Terrier backline. Peppering Gilbert with eleven total shot attempts, the Bears broke through for a second time in the 65th minute.
Junior Nate Pomeroy took a pass down the right side of the field before cutting past a BU defenseman and ripping a shot past Gilbert for the 2-0 lead. The goal came as a direct result of a defensive breakdown on the part of the Terriers as Brown’s Christian Rodriguez capitalized off of a BU turnover before feeding it to Pomeroy for the score.
The Terriers will be back in action this Saturday as they take on Lafayette in Patriot League play. BU is 3-0-1 in the Patriot League and is looking to continue their conference dominance over a solid Leopards squad that sits only three points behind BU in the league table. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
