BU Women’s Soccer Hosts Harvard Tuesday

BOSTON — After beating Loyola Maryland to gain sole possession of first place in the Patriot League on Saturday, the Boston University Women’s Soccer Team will host Harvard on Tuesday night at Nickerson Field in their final non-conference game of the regular season.
The Terriers come into the match at 5-4-3 overall, and 3-0-1 in the Patriot League following their 4-1 win against visiting Loyola on Saturday. On a cold and windy afternoon, BU played one of their most dominant games of the season. Freshman McKenna Doyle scored two goals while Alex Schlobohm and Jenna Fisher added to the scoring affair.
Boston University dominated every aspect of the game, including a 12-1 advantage in shots and 9-0 in corner kicks.
The win extended the Terrier’s unbeaten streak to seven games.
The Harvard Crimson come into Tuesday’s game with a record of 4-6-1 overall, and 2-0-0 in Ivy League play. After a difficult non-conference schedule highlighted by a 3-0 loss to then No. 1 Virginia, the Crimson have won their last two matches in Ivy League play.
Their last game was a 4-0 shutout of arch-rival Yale on Saturday where Margaret Purce scored a hat trick, which earned her Ivy League Player of the Week honors. Purce, a junior forward with U.S. National Team experience, ranks ninth in the nation averaging five shots per game and is now eighth on the all-time Harvard goal scoring list.
BU enters the contest with a 4-0-0 record at Nickerson Field this season. The Terriers hold the nation’s longest active conference home win streak which is now at 32 games after beating Loyola.
Boston University is 7-6-5 against Harvard all-time, but they have not lost in the previous eight matches. A season ago, Boston University won a thrilling 2-1 OT game at Harvard thanks to a goal by Erica Kosienski in the 105th minute. That game extended BU’s then unbeaten streak to five games.
A win Tuesday will extend this season’s unbeaten run to eight games.
