BU rolls into Maine to face the Black Bears
Orono, Maine — After starting the season with a dramatic last-second victory, the Boston University Women’s Ice Hockey team (1-0-0, 1-0-0 Hockey East) travels to Orono, Maine to face the University of Maine in another Hockey East showdown.
Maine (1-0-0, 1-0-0 Hockey East) will look to build on a dominating 4-0 victory over New Hampshire. Freshman Audra Richards began her collegiate career with a hat trick, adding her third goal on an empty-netter late in the third period. Senior Meghann Treacy stopped all 29 shots on net for the shutout. The Black Bears went 1-for-4 on the Power Play and 4-for-4 on the Penalty Kill.
The Terriers played a persistent UCONN team on Friday and managed a 2-1 victory. Despite making life difficult for the Huskies on defense, the few chances they did get made for quality scoring chances. BU clearly led in the shot department the entire game, out attempting UCONN 110-35. Blocked shots were the key reason UCONN’s defense held BU to only two goals. Freshman Sammy Davis and Senior Rebecca Russo both scored on close range shots by crashing the net.
Last season, BU won two of the three games against Maine, including one on the road. The Terriers are 21-7-2 all-time against the Black Bears. Puck drop is scheduled for 1 p.m at Alfond Arena.
