BU Erases Early Deficit, Downs Maine, 4-2

ORONO,Maine — After a late first period tally from Audra Richards and a quick second period strike from Emilie Brigham, Boston University found itself in a 2-0 hole. Head coach Brian Durocher pulled starter Erin O’Neil after allowing her second goal in six shots. Victoria Hanson saved all 14 shots sent her way as BU crawled back to win 4-2 on the road.

Two minutes after the second Maine goal, Freshman Sammy Davis redirected a Sarah Steele shot for her second goal in as many games to cut the Terrier’s deficit in half.

Midway through the second, Rebecca Russo, on assists from Conor Galway and Savannah Newton, tipped home the tying goal for her second of the year. The assits marked the first collegiate points for Galway and Newton.

BU had five power play opportunites the whole game with four coming in the third period. On the fifth and final BU power play, Sammy Davis would not be denied her second goal of the game.

In a last-ditch effort, Maine pulled goaltender Meghann Treacy for a sixth attacker while on the power play. Rebecca Leslie made the Black Bears pay, adding a short-handed empty-net goal to finish the scoring at 4-2.

BU finished the game with a 43-20 advantage in shots on goal, with Sammy Davis accounting for eight and Rebecca Leslie for six. Alexis Crossley, still searching for her first goal, added four shots.

The Terriers next game will be home Friday night at 7:00 p.m against the Penn State Nittany Lions. This starts a four game home-stand for BU, including another game against Penn State and two with 2014 National Champions Clarkson the following weekend.
