BU Women’s Soccer Extends Unbeaten Run to Six Games, Stuns Colgate 2-0

HAMILTON, New York — The BU women’s soccer team won arguably their biggest game of the season Wednesday night, a 2-0 victory over the host Colgate Raiders at Beyer-Small ’76 Field. The Terriers (4-4-3, 2-0-1 PL) extended their unbeaten streak to six games and evened their record to .500 for the first time this season. With the win, BU remains at the top of the Patriot League table.

In a game that featured a rematch of last year’s conference championship, a showdown that the Terriers won, Colgate came out attacking the net in search for revenge.

The Raiders had a pair of chances in the first half to take an early lead. The closest one came off a Colgate corner kick when junior Lysette Roman headed the ensuing cross toward the Terrier net. BU goalie Alyssa Parisi had the header trickle through her hands towards the goal line but senior forward Jenna Fisher was there to clear the ball and keep the game scoreless. Colgate had four shots on net in the first half but could not convert.

The Terriers took advantage of these missed opportunities and started the second half firing on all cylinders. Just two minutes into the half, Erica Kosienki was tripped inside the box and BU was awarded a penalty kick, which Clare Plueler blasted into the top left corner for her second goal of the year, giving the Terriers a 1-0 lead.

Just over a minute later, BU doubled the advantage. This time Christina Wakefield sent in a cross to Jesse Shreck at the top of the box. Shreck calmly sent her shot into the top right corner for her first career goal.

The Terriers didn’t look back en route to their second win of the season in Patriot League play. Senior goalkeeper Alyssa Parisi had four saves on the evening and recorded her third shutout of the season.

Boston University, after their dominance over the last couple of weeks, suddenly looks like the team to beat in the Patriot League. In their last six matches the Terriers are 4-0-2. Wednesday night was a huge win for BU in their quest of the regular season league title, an award Colgate claimed over the Terriers a season ago.

The Terriers will look to stay in top form on Saturday afternoon when they return home to Nickerson Field, where they are undefeated so far this year, to host the Loyola Maryland Greyhounds at 1:00 p.m.
