PREVIEW: BU Women’s Soccer to Host Providence Tonight

By: Matt Doherty

BOSTON — The Boston University Women’s Soccer Team will look to continue its winning ways tonight, as they host the Providence College Friars in their final matchup before beginning conference play on Sunday.

The Terriers (1-4-2) are coming off their first victory of the season, defeating Hofstra 2-1 on Sunday in overtime. The game-winning goal was scored by senior Clare Pleuler, her first of the year. The win marked BU’s third straight overtime contest and fourth of the season.

BU will go for a second consecutive win against a talented Providence team. The Friars (6-2-0) are coming off an overtime victory themselves, a 3-2 win over Boston College, a team Boston U lost to earlier in the season.  PC is led by junior forward Rachel Ugolik, who scored two goals against BC and also assisted on the game-winner. Her recent efforts earned her ECAC Offensive Player of the Week honors.

Tonight marks the fifth time these two programs met since 1997. The first four were all won by Boston University, the most recent match-up being season ago when the Terriers defeated the host Friars 2-1. Head Coach Nancy Feldman will look for similar results and keep the winning streak going before heading into her team’s first Patriot League contest of the year against Bucknell this weekend.

Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m at Nickerson Field, and will be streamed live on the Patriot League Network.
