Terriers Take on Saints in First Ever Meeting at Nickerson Field

By: Alex Greenberg

The Boston University men’s soccer team (1-1) welcomes Siena to Nickerson Field for the first time between these two teams, but don’t expect the Terriers to lay out the welcome mat for the Saints.

The Terriers look to get back to their winning ways after a disappointing 3-2 defeat to Boston College at the Terrier Tailgate last Monday. BU looked dangerous on the attack in that contest, but head coach Neil Roberts will certainly be looking for more from his players on the defensive side of the ball. BC forward Simon Enstrom scored two goals off of chances that developed after some poor Terrier defending.

Despite the loss, BU managed to put two balls in the net, and had some promising chances that did not end up in their favor. Sophomore transfer Anthony Viteri was particularly bright, scoring the Terrier’s first goal and creating chances in their attacking third of the field. Freshman T.J. Butzke continued his hot start to the season, assisting on Felix De Bona’s equalizer.

Siena faced Boston University last season in Albany, and won 1-0 in a fairly well-balanced contest. Siena earned the win thanks to a 27th minute goal from Alexander Tejera. Tejera’s play up top as a target man can cause problems for any team. Defenders Ben Valek and Jeroen Blugh will be tasked with winning the aerial duels against the 6 -foot-2 Tejera.

Before that, these two teams faced off in a regular season tournament at UMass in 1988, where the Terriers toppled the Saints 3-0.

The Saints (0-2-1) are searching for their first win of the season tonight at Nickerson Field after they lost their season opener to Rutgers and drew against both New Hampshire and Hartford.

Their main offensive threat is Junior Rosero, a junior striker who was named MAAC Offensive Player of the Week after he dished out an assist and scored two goals, one of them being the equalizer against Hartford

Kickoff is set for 7:00pm, and will be streamed live on the Patriot League Network.
