Field Hockey: Terriers 4, Wild Cats 3
Senior co-captain Sofi Laurito redirected the ball to the top right corner of the goal with 1:18 left in regulation to lift the No. 20 Boston University field hockey team to a thrilling 4-3 win over New Hampshire in the 2015 season opener on Friday evening at New Balance Field.
The Terriers never trailed in the game but the Wildcats rallied back to tie the game twice following deficits of 2-0 and 3-2 before Laurito’s late heroics.
Junior Hester van der Laan opened the scoring and then assisted on the game winner when her corner effort from the top of the circle was tipped up by Laurito.
Sophomore Grace Boston recorded her first goal as a Terrier off a pass by freshman Kara Enoch. Junior Taylor Blood also scored for BU and classmate Cammy Jensen made five saves in goal to pick up the win in her first-ever start.
BU held a 17-13 shot advantage and each team earned eight penalty corners.
This was the opening game of the inaugural Tri-Conference Cup, which also includes No. 18 Massachusetts. UNH will take on UMass tomorrow before the Terriers face the Minutewomen in the finale on Sunday. Both games start at 6 p.m.
