Enrollment Pre-Requisites

This resource provides guidance on what to expect when a student encounters a class with an associated pre-requisite in MyBU Student that they have not fulfilled.

The following information outlines the student’s experience when a pre-requisite has not been met:

  1. There are many methods to enroll in a class, including through the Schedule Builder, Shopping Cart, or from the Class Search. Those instructions can be reviewed in the Methods of Registration resource.
  2. A department determines if a class requires pre-requisites. If attempting to enroll in a class that does have pre-requisites defined and the student has not satisfied them, they will receive a message with those details. This will prevent them from registering for that class.
  3. If the student would like to review their options, they can reach out to the department that has defined the requirement.

In this example below, the student is trying to enroll in CDSDS 340 (8464), however they have not taken any of the classes listed as pre-requisites.

  • The registration into CDSDS 340 therefore does not complete.
  • Notice that the student was still able to successfully register for CDSDS 563 (8551).

This image shows the text of the pre-requisite not met message when trying to enroll.

TIP: Reminder that there may be other items in the results message. For example, if the student has a hold or a time conflict, those issues will also display.

NOTE: Pre-requisite information will also display if the student uses the Validation feature before enrollment. More details on that process can be found in the Preparing for Registration resource.
