Medical campus faculty that are not part of the BUMG should follow BU HR leaves policies. If you are unsure which policies and benefits apply to you, the first step is to contact BU Human Resources Service Center: 617-353-2380, general HR email hr@bu.edu Confirm you know whether your research space is BU or BMC. This is easy to check via the PI home institution search.

- There are several personal leave categories: medical, childbirth, discretionary/other leaves, military, jury, sympathy, domestic violence.
- Family leave categories: illness/medical condition, child bonding/caregiving, military qualifying exigencies, military caregiving

BU Paid Family & Medical Leave Law Policy
- The Boston University Paid Family and Medical Leave Law Policy (“BU PFMLL Policy”) describes the leave benefits for which Boston University employees and former employees are eligible pursuant to the Massachusetts Family and Medical Leave Law.
- These are policies for all Boston University employees but do not apply to BUMG providers.
Applying for Leaves
- Sedgwick is the 3rd party Leaves Administrator for Boston University: mySedgwick portal
- The mySedgwick portal allows faculty to submit a leaves claim electronically, check the status of their application, and chat with their claim examiner online.
- Department leaders will receive reports on the status of all employees on a leave.
- Employees can call Sedgwick to report a claim over the phone using interactive voice response technology.
- Employees can submit leave applications up to 60 days in advance of an anticipated leave.
