Animal Subjects/IACUC Policies

If your research includes IACUC approved vertebrate animals, it is important to develop a plan.

• Protocol Compliance & Training: To ensure compliance with protocols and to prevent gaps in approval, check your research team’s training status and protocol renewal dates (see compliance recommendations).
• Contact the IACUC. It is helpful to let the IACUC office know that you have a designated person on a protocol to contact with any questions & post-approval monitoring. Semi-Annual Inspections: Also consider designating an individual as the contact for semi-annual inspections.
• Animal Health Concerns: You should also consider designating a proxy that will be available to respond to any health concern emails from laboratory animal care staff. These notifications are frequently time sensitive and require immediate responses. Contact Animal Science Center Veterinary Staff to let them know about your leave.
