Tunji Akinsehinwa

Associate Professor of the Practice and Associate Dean, Department of Film and Television, College of Communication

Tunji Akinsehinwa’s expertise lies in African cinema, with a particular focus on Nigerian cinema. For three years, he worked as a cinematographer in Nollywood, where he shot feature films, documentaries, and television series. He likes to work in the independent, low-budget film scene, where less is more, and has completed several British films. As a cinematographer, he has supported inclusivity behind the camera by encouraging and training women and people from marginalised communities to get involved in cinematography, and in front of the camera, he has championed representation by teaching lighting techniques specifically designed to honour darker skin tones—ensuring that stories are told with authenticity, care, and respect.
