Jeffries-EL and student to present at conference this June

This week, Dr. Jeffries-EL and graduate student, Carmen Betts, travel to Bloomington, IL to present current research at the 46th National Organic Chemistry Symposia (NOS). On Thursday, Professor Jeffries-EL will be discussing current research based on benzobisoxazole (BBO) and benzodifuran (BDF) based materials for organic electronics. Mrs. Betts will be presenting her work towards BDF […]

Shalom! Jeffries-EL and student travel to Israel for collaborative research trip

This June, Dr. Jeffries-EL and graduate student, David Wheeler, traveled to the Hebrew University of Jerusalem (HUJI) to characterize and understand the properties of several organic materials for potential use in OLED devices. During the visit, Dr. Jeffries-EL gave two talks about the group’s research at Ben Gurion University (BGU) and HUJI.

Congratulations, Dr. Ramiro Chavez III

After much hard work and perseverance, the Jeffries-EL group was able to celebrate with Ramiro on his successful doctoral defense: “The Design and Synthesis of Next Generation Organic Semiconductors Based on Benzobisoxazole”. Dr. Chavez III will be the ninth doctoral student to graduate under Dr. Jeffries-EL.   Way to go, Ramiro!

Farewell, Robin

The Jeffries-EL group bid a heartfelt farewell to Robin Wessling after completing 6 months of research abroad from his home university in Freiburg, Germany. Robin’s research focused on the synthesis of D-A polymers for organic solar cell application.   Good luck, Robin!

Group Members to Present at Upcoming ACS Meeting

This week, several group members from the Jeffries-EL team will be presenting their newest findings on the characterization and synthesis of organic semiconducting materials for OPV and OLED application. Come by and check them out! Evan Muller: “Investigating naphtho[1,2-b:5,6-b’]difuran (NDF) as an electron rich co-monomer in donor-acceptor conjugated polymer systems utilizing C-H activation polymerization.” David […]

Dr. Jeffries-EL named a 2018 ACS Fellow

This summer, the American Chemical Society (ACS) deemed our own Dr. Jeffries-EL as a 2018 ACS Fellow. Thanks to her contributions and research in the field of chemistry, Jeffries-EL will be recognized for her achievement at the Fall ACS Conference here in Boston on August 20th.

Group Bids Farewell to Summer 2018 Students

The Jeffries-EL group said their ‘goodbyes’ to two bright and up-coming chemists this week.  Hard at work for the past two months, they have synthesized new, novel materials for organic electronic devices.  DeZhanae McCall-Butler’s (pictured left) work consisted of BBO-based, donor-acceptor photovoltaic polymers for renewable energy application. Simone Tennyson (pictured right) focused on the synthesis […]

Jeffries-EL members publish exciting new work

A set of new naptho[1,2-b:5,6-b’]difuran polymers were synthesized and investigated with the help of Evan Muller, Alfred Burney-Allen, and Dr. Jessica Shaw. The time-resolved spectroscopic properties elucidate the potential of these polymers use in photovoltaic devices.  Read the full article here: https://pubs.acs.org/doi/10.1021/acs.jpcc.8b03914
