Preparing for Leaves

Some leaves cannot be anticipated. Others can, and developing a research leave plan will significantly help you and your research team stay on track and relieve some of the day to day worries about keeping your research program going.

Key first steps are to ask yourself a few questions:
  • Will I realistically be able to check in on my research team during a leave?
  • Do I even want to check in on my research team during my leave?
  • What is the frequency and reasons for checking in on the research team and for what issues?
  • Do I have a more senior member of my research team, local collaborator/co-investigator that can function as a go-to person/proxy in my absence?
Now you are ready to develop your research project management plan
