Sophia Tigges

Sophia Tigges (they/them) is a Ph.D. candidate in the Department of Earth & Environment. Originally from Atlanta, GA, Sophia earned their Bachelor’s degree in Earth, Atmospheric, and Planetary Sciences from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Sophia’s undergraduate thesis focused on a dynamical modeling project about ring formation around small solar system bodies called Centaurs. Sophia’s current research interests include coastal geomorphology, specifically how beaches and marshes respond to climate change effects such as sea level rise and increased storminess. Besides research, Sophia enjoys knitting and crocheting; they even have 60+ plants.
