Rowan Nelson is a PhD student in Bioinformatics and Boston University and is interested in studying and engineering microbial communities in the context of climate change. Hailing from the wonderful pacific northwest, she studied Biochemistry at Oregon State University, where she researched microbes response to glacial melt. After attaining her bachelor’s, she spent a year at University of Washington, where she did research on de-novo peptide sequencing using machine learning models. In addition to her research, she hopes to be an advocate for climate justice of Indigenous nations. In her free time, she enjoys outdoor activities like bird watching, as well as hanging out with her cat at home.
