Lydia Jefferson (they/them) is a first-year Ph.D. student in the Department of Earth & Environment. In 2022, they earned their Bachelor’s degree from the University of Missouri- Columbia with a major in Environmental Sciences with an emphasis in Water, a minor in Religious Studies, and a Multiculturalism Certificate. Prior to their graduate studies, their research focused on land use’s impacts on respiration rates in urban streams. At BU Lydia works in the Fulweiler lab and will investigate the impact combined sewer overflow events have on microplastic abundance, as this is an unknown yet potentially important exposure route to microplastics in environmental justice communities.
