Kathryn Atherton graduated with a PhD in Bioinformatics from Boston University. Prior to her doctoral work in the Bhatnagar Lab, she received her BS in Biological Engineering from Purdue University in 2019. Her research focuses on how the soil microbiome impacts the health of urban street trees. Following her PhD, she worked as a Policy Associate with the BU Institute for Global Sustainability, before starting a AAAS Science and Technology Policy Fellowship in the US State Department where she hopes to develop policy related to urban forestry. Outside of the lab, Kathryn is a NYT crossword nerd, a die-hard Liverpool F.C. fan, and an avid charcuterie board creator and eater.
