Official Job Description

Boston University’s URBAN Program seeks to hire a Program Manager. The URBAN Program prepares graduate students to tackle urban environmental challenges using interdisciplinary methods centered on student partnerships with governments, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector. The Program Manager is responsible for the programming, communication, and implementation of this interdisciplinary program. Specific activities include recruiting students into the program and providing mentorship and advising to current students, managing workshops and the program’s website and social media, coordinating program evaluation efforts, and cultivating student internships. The Program Manager interacts regularly with internship partners, communicating, fostering, and maintaining relationships with them, as well as faculty and staff across multiple departments and units at Boston University. The Program Manager participates as an active team member in the development, refinement, and maintenance of program processes, organizational structures, and strategy, and manages the budget and fundraising efforts. This position offers an opportunity that fuses creativity and leadership at the interface of graduate education, science, and urban governance. Most importantly, the program values diversity, equity, and inclusion across every aspect of its operations, and the Program Manager is tasked with implementing these values and developing new initiatives. This is a full-time position.

Qualifications: Applicants with MA/MS/MPH/MBA/MSW in fields related to Higher Education Administration, Public Policy, Biogeoscience, Biology, Biogeochemistry, Environmental Policy and/or Planning, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Science, or Environmental Health or at least two years of professional experience are desired. Experience in science communication, field-based or experiential education, curriculum development, working with cities, and/or program assessment are a plus. Successful candidates need to have excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills, and have ability to work independently. They need to communicate effectively and diplomatically with people from a variety of different backgrounds.
