Many of you will be getting some time away next week during school February vacation week!  Hope you find it restful and reflective in the midst of our snowy winter!  Some of you may even have the option to retreat to sunnier climates! Whatever you do, enjoy!

This may be of interest to school nurses who also hold an NP certification:

The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) recommends that providers consider offering medication-assisted treatment to patients with severe opioid use or discuss referrals to other providers. Dissemination of available therapies for this age group are needed to save and improve lives of youth with opioid use disorder.
Boston Medical Center will be hosting a waiver training on April 24th from 8-4:30 PM. The training is free, has CE and CME’s, validated parking, light breakfast and lunch is included. Workshop begins promptly at 8:30 am and concludes at 1:30  pm. Cost of workshop is $40.00.
This MIAA wellness workshop will offer two presentations.

Typical or Troubled?
Dr. Barbara Greene, Center for Integrative Counseling and Wellness

This presentation explores the broad spectrum of adolescent mental health development. Participants will leave with an understanding of mental health diagnoses, substance use, risk factors, and warning signs, how to intervene and refer, gold-standard treatment options, and strategies to approach situations collaboratively as a school-based team.

Hidden in Plain Sight
Kimberly Noble, Youth Health Connection Program Coordinator

Hidden in Plain Sight (HIPS) is a Mock Teen Bedroom Display. Through the eyes of the teen, participants will visualize over 50 hidden items that can be found in teen bedrooms. In a train-the-trainer format, participants will also learn how they can use HIPS in their schools and communities, and have those talks with parents about the importance of family communication, current drug trends, and how drug paraphernalia may be “Hidden in Plain Sight.”
