James grew up in Michigan and always had a passion for aquatic environments. Before joining the lab, caring for aquariums of all types had been a long-time hobby. While in the lab, he carried out a project investigating habitat selection of adult neon gobies in captivity. James majored in Marine Science with a minor in Chemistry.
