Who are we?
We are anthropologists who collect long-term community-centered data (you can learn more about our work with the Omo Valley Research Project here). Over years of fieldwork, we realized how much time and energy researchers spend struggling with scattered forms, inconsistent data, and endless cleaning. We wanted something better, something that made fieldwork smoother and collaboration easier.
That’s why we created AnthroCollect: a free, open-access app designed by fieldworkers. It helps you register participants quickly, find people across interviews with ease, and link data seamlessly across forms. Our goal is simple: make high-quality, comparable data easier to collect, so more energy can be spent on what truly matters: doing good research with the communities we work with.
Zachary H. Garfield
Assistant Professor of Behavioral Science at University Mohammed VI Polytechnic, Rabat, Morocco
Co-director of The Omo Valley Research Project (OVRP).
His work integrates ethnographic, quantitative, and cross-cultural methods to study leadership, cooperation, conflict resolution, and social learning in human societies. Zach also conducts long-term field research across diverse rural communities in southwest Ethiopia and develops comparative datasets on social, biological, and health systems. His broader research aims to build evidence-based theories of human behavior and cultural dynamics grounded in sustained, on-the-ground inquiry.
Luke Glowacki
Assistant Professor of Anthropology at Boston University
Co-director of The Omo Valley Research Project (OVRP).
He studies the evolution of complex social behavior, including cooperation and war. Luke has also done extensive fieldwork among nomadic pastoralists along the Ethiopian/South Sudanese border studying inter-ethnic violence. His broader research seeks to understand how humans build complex social systems, and he is deeply interested in bridging the social, life, and psychological sciences to better explain how and why humans do the fascinating things they do.
Maud Mouginot
Postdoctoral Associate at Boston University
Co-director of The Omo Valley Research Project (OVRP).
Her research focuses on the evolution of cooperation and aggression in humans. While her earlier work examined male reproductive strategies in bonobos and chimpanzees, she now studies the evolution of coalitions and the influence of women in subsistence-based societies. Maud has conducted fieldwork with wild bonobos and now works with several communities in Southwest Ethiopia through the Omo Valley Research Project and contributes to cross-site data collection using AnthroCollect.
