Emilie Racine

Emilie Racine is a Canadian artist from Québec, Montréal. Emilie Racine is a puppeteer, director, and filmmaker who draws inspiration from tales, symbols and archetypes to touch the collective unconscious. She makes and animates different types of puppets – giant, fragmented, inhabited – to tell stories that are embodied through materials and their movements. Racine is co-artistic director of the theater company Territoire 80, where she initiated two shows: Habite-moi, a Brazil-Canada co-production presented since 2018 in different theaters in Brazil (European premiere at the FMTM in Charleville-Mézières in September 2023 ) ; and Le Chat Pèlerin, a Mali-Canada-France co-production presented at the Institut Français du Mali in March 2021. As founder of the company Création Vivante, her passion for visual theater led her to take the puppet into public spaces, notably with her shows Les Mariés Corbeaux, Céleste and L’Histoire de Pi, which led her to collaborate with various festivals in Québec, Mexico, Ivory Coast, Tunisia and Madagascar. Between 2020 and 2023, she produced and directed a polyptych work entitled Persephone, which is divided into several parts: a short film, a multimedia installation and different forms of performances.

Emilie Racine est une marionnettiste, metteure en scène et réalisatrice qui s’inspire des contes, des symboles et des archétypes pour toucher l’inconscient collectif. Elle fabrique et anime différents types de marionnettes – géante, morcelée, habitée – pour raconter des histoires qui s’incarnent par les matériaux et leurs mouvements. Emilie est codirectrice artistique de la compagnie de théâtre Territoire 80, où elle initie la création de deux spectacles: Habite-moi, une coproduction Brésil-Canada présenté depuis 2018 dans différents théâtres au Brésil (première européenne au FMTM de Charleville-Mézières en septembre 2023) ; et Le Chat pèlerin, une coproduction Mali-Canada-France présentée à l’Institut français du Mali en mars 2021. Comme fondatrice de la compagnie Création Vivante, sa passion pour le théâtre visuel l’entraine à sortir la marionnette dans l’espace public, notamment avec ses spectacles Les Mariés Corbeaux, Céleste et L’Histoire de Pi, qui l’amènent à collaborer avec différents festivals au Québec, au Mexique, en Côte d’Ivoire, en Tunisie et à Madagascar. Entre 2020 et 2023, elle a produit et réalisé une œuvre polyptyque intitulée Perséphone se déclinant en plusieurs volets : un court-métrage, une installation multimédia et différentes formes de performances.
