Dr. Short’s research investigates the social and political dimensions of land and natural resource management. By integrating across the broad fields of natural resource management, institutions and the environment, and political ecology, she seeks to better understand how socio-political and ecological processes shape human interactions with nature and natural resource decision-making, and how these relationships vary across and within urban, suburban, and rural contexts. Her projects span topics as diverse as wildlife management, cannabis cultivation, and nonpoint source pollution. All of her projects are problem driven and Dr. Short works with landowners, natural resource agencies, and other decision-makers to connect research with practice.

Expertise: Natural resource management, political ecology
