25th Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium

Stepp lab undergraduate Courtney Dunsmuir ’24 recently presented her summer research conducted through the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) at BU’s 25th Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium, held at Boston University on October 21, 2022.

Courtney’s research explored the differential contributions of auditory and somatosensory feedback control mechanisms of laryngeal and articulatory speech subsystems in persons with Parkinson’s disease.

We would like to congratulate Courtney for her wonderful presentation and continued contribution to research conducted under Stepp Lab! She is also a recipient of Fall UROP 2022 funding.

Courtney Dunsmuir and her poster titled “Investigation of Auditory and Somatosensory Feedback in Vocal and Articulatory Motor Control Function for Individuals with Parkinson’s Disease”.

Alum Gabriel Cler selected to the inaugural class of the NIH Outstanding Scholars in Neuroscience Award Program

Stepp Lab alum Gabriel Cler has been selected as an award recipient for the NIH Outstanding Scholars in Neuroscience Award Program (OSNAP)! The Outstanding Scholar in Neuroscience is a new postdoctoral recruiting effort designed to recognize and support those who are conducting exceptional research and have a great academic potential! Congratulations, Gabe!

Defne Abur awarded ASHFoundation New Century Scholars Doctoral Scholarship!

Congratulations to lab member Defne Abur for winning the ASHFoundation New Century Scholars Doctoral Scholarship! This scholarship is awarded to strong doctoral candidates who are pursuing teacher-investigator careers in the academic environment. Defne will use this scholarship to help further her research examining auditory contributions to speech production in individuals with and without neurological disease.

Defne Abur selected to receive Academy of Neurologic Communication Disorders and Sciences (ANCDS) Student Fellowship!

Congratulations to Defne Abur for receiving a 2019 ANCDS Student Fellowship!

The ANCDS conference theme for this year is Functional Treatment of Neurogenic Communication Disorders – Fueling the Future with the goal to promote ongoing discussions and evidence‐based practice to improve the care and quality of life of patients with neurogenic disorders.
