What is the IAM Project?

The IAM project is an implementation project focuses on updating BU’s Identity database. This project is divided into two phases:

Phase 1: The IAM project focuses on building a modern, vendor-supported, cloud-based Identity database and migrate our current homegrown and mainframe-based Identity Creation and Identity Match processes to the new solution. An administrative portal for managing identities will be built, and all the new data, processes, databases and portals will be able to integrate with other BU systems. This project was implemented in March 2022.

Phase 2: Release 1 of the Phase 2 IAM Project focuses on modernizing our account database and provisioning solution. The new solution will provision BU Logins and WebAccounts for BU affiliations as well as birthright privileges.

Additionally, the solution will provide several self-service capabilities such as account claim, changing your password, resetting your forgotten password, and updating your personal information which includes standard demographic information, such as display name, personal pronouns, and gender identity. As part of the IAM project, a new self-service interface is being created so staff, faculty, students, alumni and affiliates can update their own personal information, like gender identity and pronouns. This is an important step in supporting all students at BU.

Below are examples of the future self-service menu screens:
