Lab News
Spotlight of the Week #8
12/2018 - This Spotlight of the Week goes to graduate researcher Ashlyn Aiello! Ashlyn is a Master's Student in Mechanical Engineering who also completed her undergraduate studies in biomedical engineering with a concentration in nanotechnology and a minor in mechanical engineering at the College of Engineering. In the lab, she is working on integrating functional electrical stimulation (FES) with soft exosuits to enhance the effect of rehabilitation robotics. Ashlyn used to play goalie on BU’s Division I Women's Ice Hockey team!
New Students
11/2018 - The NRL has welcomed two new graduate students in Fall 2018: Ashley Collimore and Ashlyn Aiello — both engineers with a passion to develop and test next generation rehabilitation technologies!
American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine Conference
11/2018 - Our lab director, Lou Awad, PT, DPT, PhD, gave a pre-conference workshop at the American Congress of Rehabilitation Medicine annual conference on Rhythm and the Motor System: New Opportunities for Gait Training.
Spotlight of the Week #7
11/2018 - This Spotlight of the Week goes to graduate researcher Ashley Collimore! Ashley is a First-Year PhD student in the Rehabilitation Sciences doctoral program at Sargent College who completed her undergraduate studies in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Pennsylvania. In the lab, she is working on developing a new control approach for wearable, powered assistive technologies (wearable robots and functional electrical stimulation) that combines information about the user’s movements with the environmental context to provide “smart”, task-aware mobility assistance. Ashley is an Adventurer who has worked at Six Flags Great Adventure for 3 years, 2 years in arcade and 1 year in the engineering department!
New Publication in PM&R!
10/2018 - Check out our new publication in PM&R! In this publication, we discuss how portable, low-cost, and wearable sensors are used to track movements of patients with neurologic or musculoskeletal conditions to help create more personalized medicine. Check out the lab's publication page or you can access the pdf directly here!
Italian Wounded Warrior Project
09/2018 - Recently, our lab's director, Lou Awad, PT, DPT, PhD, presented to representatives of the Italian Wounded Warrior Project visiting Spaulding Rehabilitation Network. It was an honor to share how our work developing and testing next generation rehabilitation technologies could help restore the mobility of our veterans.
Spotlight of the Week #6
08/2018 - This Spotlight of the Week goes to Macauley O'Connor! Macauley is a Year 2 Doctorate of Physical Therapy student in Sargent College. He is currently a research assistant in the Neuromotor Recovery Lab and the Center for Neurorehabilitation at Boston University. At the NRL, he is playing an instrumental role across many different projects, include the ReWalk Restore clinical trial with Spaulding Rehabilitation Network and our exosuit research with the Wyss Institute. His goal in the lab is to learn more about how assistive robotic technology can improve rehabilitation outcomes for patients, especially those with neurological conditions. Macauley's sweet talent is that he used to work as a gelato maker!
EIT Presentation
08/2018 - Last month, our lab's director, Lou Awad, PT, DPT, PhD, presented to a delegation of the European Institute of Innovation and Technology visiting the Wyss Institute and Spaulding Rehabilitation Network. It was an honor to meet with our European colleagues and learn about the exciting research that they are doing.
Visit and lecture by Dr. George Hornby
06/2018 - Check out Dr. George Hornby sharing his ongoing research on stroke and spinal cord injury locomotor rehabilitation with our col-laboratory at Harvard’s Wyss Institute and BU’s Sargent College.
Lecture on Music and the Brain
06/2018 - We were very pleased to welcome Brian Harris, CEO of MedRhythms, to present on technological innovations in the field of neurologic music therapy.
