Sierra Pettway

Sierra’s goal with this internship was to improve community health and well-being through hiring, purchasing, and investing in local economic impact. This will help to start to break down the barriers and challenges residents of lower economic status face daily, which ultimately have a positive impact on their health and improve health equity. The main finding of the Community Profiles was that minorities represent a large portion of individuals living in poverty in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Now, that this vulnerable population has been identified, community health workings and the health system can work on implementing programs to better support their needs. Health equity means everyone has the opportunity to receive effective healthcare and it starts by touching those who are in great need of it. The work that she has done the past six months helped recognize a small portion of those who are in of those resources.
