Course Expectations

This is the first course in the ECE senior design capstone sequence comprised of EC 463 and EC 464. The capstone sequence is intended to take a project from start to finish. In the EC 463 part, students work in teams on topics from concept through preliminary design. The course is followed by EC 464 (or by EC 467, senior thesis) with a focus of delivering working products based on the fall deliverables.

EC 463 (fall)

The course is organized in a set of sprints corresponding to phases of project development, each with required project deliverables. These sprints encompass:

  1. Project definition
  2. Design
  3. Project management
  4. Shark tank
  5. Component testing
  6. MVP demo
  7. Rollup reporting
  8. Video presentation

The course meets hub units of RIL, WIN, and DME, which are realized in the project research, reporting, and media creation assignments.

EC 464 (spring)

Where the fall course leads to the demonstration of a semester MVP and demonstration, the spring course refines the prototype and fleshes out a final polished product. Sprints are used for three project releases and supporting activities that bring the projects to conclusion. The sprints are:

  1. Feature demo 1
  2. Feature demo 2
  3. Final testing
  4. Unboxing
  5. Trade show prep
  6. ECE Day

The course meets hub units of WIN and OSC which are realized in the project research, reporting, and presentation assignments.
