Patrick Kiernan received a B.A. in Natural Sciences from Johns Hopkins University in May 2013. While at Johns Hopkins Patrick was a four-year varsity letter winner on the football team. He joined the CTE Center in June 2013.
Patrick works on the VA-BU-SLI Brain Bank, where he assists with the clinical side of the research with the family members of deceased athletes who donate their brains to the center. He also coordinates the Brain Donation Registry, which allows current and former athletes and military personnel to pledge to donate their brain and spinal cord to the center after death.
Patrick previously worked on the Longitudinal Examination to Gather Evidence of Neurodegenerative Disease (LEGEND) study. The LEGEND study follows current and retired athletes annually to track the relationship between athletic history and cognitive, behavioral, and mood symptoms.
Research Interests:
Patrick is interested in learning more about the risk factors associated with CTE especially in terms of head trauma exposure. He is also interested in studying methods to diagnose and eventually treat CTE.
