About Us

Our Mission

We aim to better understand how movement, communication, and language develop during the early years of life, and how these developmental systems interact. As motor skills develop and children are able to sit, crawl, cruise, walk, and climb, object exploration is able to occur in more multimodal ways. Our lab studies how motor development creates opportunities for further development in other domains, as well as the developmental cascades that can occur when motor development is delayed.

Our Vision

Our work takes an interdisciplinary approach to pediatric rehabilitation by studying multiple developing systems and how they interact. Our goal is to develop movement based interventions that are home based and parent mediated, and thus can be delivered at high doses to impact multiple interconnected developmental domains. Evaluating the success of these interventions requires examining changes in real world behaviors, such as communication with caregivers, object interactions, and exploration of the environment.
